On a chilly Saturday in late October, Brittany and Lucas were married in an intimate ceremony in Starkville, Mississippi. I have to be honest, this was one of my favorite weddings this year because Luke is my second cousin, so this one was extra special. Brittany and Lucas went to high school together but didn’t quite run in the same circles at the time. It was later when they were both attending Mississippi State University that they met through one of Lucas’ sisters. (And for those who don’t know, Hail State is what we say to root the Mississippi State Bulldogs.)
Their DIY wedding included so many personal touches to the couple. Luke created the gorgeous backdrop that they said their vows in front of. Brittany wore Lucas’ mother’s (Sherri, my cousin) wedding dress. On a personal note, it was extra cool that she wore Sherri’s dress because I was the flower girl at Sherri & John’s wedding. Brittany had a seamstress make some changes to make it modern and the result was just beautiful. None of her bridesmaids or family had seen the dress in its new form so we did a reveal with her bridesmaids which were priceless. Shortly after that, Brittany and Lucas shared their first look where they would later say their vows. Both had the biggest smiles as they took each other in.
It was the first really cold afternoon in October, so guests were given blankets as they witnessed the two profess their love. After the ceremony and sunset portraits, the party began out by the pool. Guests enjoyed a Mexican buffet and margaritas. They had the most epic toasts by family and friends. There were laughs, sighs, and tears, but all said with love. It was no surprise to find many of the older family members around the TV watching Mississippi State play Texas A&M. Cowbells rang out on the dance floor as the Bulldogs won the game as guests enjoyed dancing. Brittany and Lucas had their guests send them off with a glow stick exit.
These two are so in love and it really showed during their vows. I pray for blessings on their marriage and am so excited to watch them grow old together.
