DIY Content Creation Kit

Branding sessions are great for capturing YOU and your brand, but sometimes you need something to share the rest of the time on your website, shop page, or social media. I’ve had so many clients ask me about what to have on hand to take photos of their products, events, or spaces, so I wanted to share a DIY Content Creation Kit with you today! I’m sharing a few of my favorite items to create high quality images and videos for your brand in between your full branding sessions! I’m breaking down each item below – but you can see the whole list (and where to get these items) here, too!

A Good Camera

A good point & shoot camera is a great way to step things up from mobile phone images.  I’m a Canon girl, so I’m going to only have a Canon model to recommend.  I would suggest the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III 20.1MP Digital Camera.  It’s a great little camera that isn’t too complicated where you need to know how to change lenses.  Such a great travel camera too!

Memory Cards

You’ll need SD cards and the ones I use are the SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I Memory Card 170 MB/s at 64 GB.  I can shoot a full day branding session on one of these cards and still have room.  I do suggest having several because when they go corrupt, you can’t do anything to save them.  I have at least 15 on hand at any given time.

Selfie Stick

A good selfie stick/tripod is a MUST for content creation!  I have a great one that is no longer made, but this one by Acuvar is pretty similar.  It’s great to throw your phone on it to create some reels and it even comes with a remote which can definitely come in handy when you don’t want to run back and forth to your phone.  Even though the link shows a DSLR on this tripod, I don’t think I’d recommend that.  I think a smartphone or lightweight point and shoot camera would work nicely.  (PS. This is the tripod I like!

Video Camera

One of my favorite toys from the lockdown was the DJI Pocket 2.  It’s a small device about the size of a candy bar that takes video.  It has a nice gimbal built into the device so you can take smooth video without all the bumpiness.  It does require a micro SD card to record.  The quality is amazing and I’ve been using it to get behind the scenes video at my branding sessions lately and I just love it!

iPhone

Another must have is a mobile device, specifically my iPhone.  I don’t know what I’d do without it.  I love the camera for quick video and yes, even some for photos.  I will ALWAYS prefer a DSLR or even a Point & Shoot to my iPhone, but there is something nice about not being with that big camera sometimes too.  And I have loads of photos that I love that were taken on my iPhone.  I’m due for an upgrade and will likely get the Apple iPhone 13 256GB.
