As the year is coming to a close and we get ready to turn the page and start a new year, you might be thinking about what you want the next year to look like in your business. Starting the new year off with a branding session will provide clarity, confidence, and visuals that actually move your business forward. Here’s why now is the perfect time to plan your 2026 brand shoot.

December is the sweet spot for planning your branding session because this time of the year naturally brings us to thinking about the future and what we want it to look like. When it comes to business, you might be considering new offers, products, services, or other exciting new changes. Branding photos are the perfect way to communicate these fresh, new business ideas. Whether you have new products you want to showcase, or you just need a refresh, now is the perfect time to plan.
For many businesses, December and January are slower months, which means there is more time to review what content performed best this year, look at what visuals feel outdated or off-brand, set goals for your business and marketing, and identify what you want next year to look like (literally and strategically).
December becomes the time to align your brand visuals with the direction you’re heading. Plus, brand photographers book early. By planning your 2026 brand shoot now means you get first dibs on dates, the season or location you want, and plenty of prep time to ensure you have the best and most impactful brand session.
Starting the new year off with a plan is such a good feeling! Imagine walking into January knowing you have or are on schedule to have the visuals you need for your 2026 content plan. By strategically looking at your goals and vision for the new year and taking steps to ensure you have the images to go with it, you’ll enter the year confident.
You won’t experience stress of not having the right images to launch your new offer, photos of the new products for your website, or authentic brand imagery of you for the new website redesign. Whatever your business goals are for 2026, a fresh branding session can make all the difference. If your business evolves but your visuals don’t, people notice the inconsistency, which can eventually lead to lost revenue. Outdated brand photos can make your offers look outdated, too. People buy what looks polished and professional.
Thinking ahead allows you to start the year off with a solid plan of action and cohesive brand images for all your platforms. Instead of scrambling at the start of the year, you’re leading with intention.
Waiting to plan your shoot doesn’t just cost you time, it costs you opportunities – and causes stress later. Many don’t realize that by waiting to plan or delaying scheduling your session you could miss seasonal availability. Certain seasons book fast, and for me personally, my spring and beyond is already starting to book out. Waiting to schedule could mean you don’t get the timeframe or season you want or need due to availability.
Maybe you’ve already scheduled your session (YAY!), but you’re putting off the actual planning of it. This is your sign to start planning it now! You don’t want to be rushed and throw things together right before your session. Begin curating outfit choices and props, find location possibilities, and book your hair and makeup appointments. Trust me, not only will planning these things now reduce a ton of stress, it will help you when your time does come to look and feel confident and prepared. Rushed preparation shows in your images.
If you want to step into 2026 confident, prepared, and ahead of the game, start with these simple December prep steps.
First, review your 2024–2025 photos and consider what felt aligned with your business and what didn’t? What images did you wish you had throughout the year, or know you now need? What photos did you love?
Are you launching something? Rebranding? Shifting your niche? Offering a new service? Making any changes? If you are doing any of these, you need new brand photos to support these goals and boost your business in this direction. Your photos should support where your business is headed.
Think about where you use your brand photos currently as well as where you’d like to use them. Think about any gaps you currently have in your content or shots you know you need. You might need photos for different areas of your website, lead magnets, email sequences, social content, collaborations and speaking opportunities, or new product or service updates. Knowing where and how you use, or want to use, your brand photos helps shape your shot list.
Consider the colors you want included in your session. Are there colors often associated with your brand? Including colors that resonate with you and brand are important. In fact I just wrote a blog about color meaning and what certain colors communicate to your audience.
Think about the outfits you will wear, making sure to choose ones that leave you feeling confident and comfortable. Write down or gather possible props for your branding session. I always suggest you incorporate items that relate to your business and that you use daily. The tools of your trade help convey what you do and the professionalism you bring.
Booking early gives you time to plan strategically, and guarantees you the best possible date. I’d love to help you create authentic brand imagery that tells your story, builds trust, and reaches your ideal client. Your brand deserves visuals that match your growth, your goals, and your momentum.
