It’s always special to photograph an engagement session, but when the groom to be is your second cousin, it makes it even more special. Brittany and Luke met in college at Mississippi State University. After graduation, they both moved to the Jackson, Mississippi area for their jobs. This past April, Luke popped the question in the pouring rain and she said yes! Shortly after that Brittany and I started discussing her wedding plans (they’re getting married in October in Starkville) and engagement session. We scheduled their session for the end of June when I was in town visiting family. I knew she wanted an outdoors feel for her session, so we chose the super cute town of Livingston, Mississippi. It’s an adorable small town with JoAnna Gaines-esque buildings. We shot around that area a bit and then walked to the lake that was close by.
I was so thankful that they were willing to shoot during the golden hour (about an hour before sunset) because we had the prettiest light out by the lake. Brittany & Luke are more fun than serious which is my ideal couple. She wanted to try a shot where she jumped into Luke’s arms (a la Dirty Dancing but not quite overhead). I’m just so glad that no one got hurt and we ended up with some super cute shots of them. There was definitely lots of laughing and smiles to go around. I’m so excited for their fall wedding!
